We are Stewards of Creation

The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP27, will be the 27th United Nations Climate Change conference, to be held from 6 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Interfaith Scotland has issued an invitation to us to send a spiritual wave around our world every day during the conference, at noon in your time zone, alone or with others. Arrange a short, simple remembrance of your nations’ preparations for COP27 in silent prayer and meditation, with the symbolic actions of your faith tradition, whether it be the chime of bells, lighting a candle, silence, bowing, kneeling, standing or sitting in prayer.

We also invite you to join us each day in prayer that we may all become

wise stewards of creation.

Tuesday 15th November

Creator God,

you have given us the privilege of participating
in the care and nurture of this world.
You call us to work in partnership with you and one another,
not simply serving ourselves,
nor looking only to short-term interests,
but conscious of our responsibility to our children
and those who will follow them.

Teach us to be wise stewards of creation.

Monday 14th November

Creator God,

Forgive us the folly of our modern lifestyles,
the fact that, even though we have repeatedly been warned
of its costly consequences,
we are reluctant to change.
Forgive us that, even as we speak,
some part of the natural world is being destroyed
and its climate and environment changed,
perhaps for ever.
We hold it in trust:

Teach us to be wise stewards of creation.

Sunday 13th November

Creator God, who made our beautiful world,

appointed us as its guardians

and gifted us with everything we need,

forgive us for the times we cause it harm;

for the times our way of life affects our neighbours.

Inspire us to care for the environment;

to help rebuild lives and communities;

to share in the griefs and anxieties,

joys and hopes of all your people,

so that all your creation may flourish.

Amen.

Teach us to be wise stewards of creation.
